Windass: I will fight for my place

Dean Windass has revealed that he will stay and fight for his place at Hull after holding talks with manager Phil Brown.

Windass has been linked with moves to Barnsley and Bradford and was even rumoured to be on the shortlist for the vacant manager's job at League Two side Grimsby Town in recent weeks, but after holding clear-the-air talks with Brown on Monday, he insists that he will stay at the club.

"Phil doesn't want me to leave and I don't want to leave. He thinks I still have a big part to play at Hull so we've shaken hands on that and we're both delighted," Windass wrote on his ITV Sport blog.

"The lads are doing so well and of course I want to play a part in that. I'm going to fight for my place but even if I'm not in the team, I'll be the first one giving the lads a gee-up.

"I'll be training just as hard as ever: Phil knows if he calls on me then I won't let him down. He couldn't promise me that I'll play more than I have been and like any manager he can only pick 11 players."

He added that he was delighted with the Tigers' impressive start to the season that has seen them rise to sixth in the league, especially after the club's shock 2-1 win over Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday.

"To win at Arsenal on Saturday was absolutely amazing. I may not have played but at the end of the day I'm a Hull City fan," said Windass.

"I've never been one to hope the team loses if I'm on the bench or whatever. I really felt a part of that victory anyway. The lads are buzzing at the moment."
