Windies calm before the storm

Resuming the final day in cloudy conditions on seven without loss chasing a victory target of 401, the tourists began positively and pushed quick singles at every opportunity.
West Indies' aggressive approach helped them reach 42 without loss in the first eight overs of the day when rain halted play.
It took five overs before either of the West Indies openers began to cut loose and play more expansive shots, with Chris Gayle pushing Steve Harmison off the back foot for the first boundary of the day through the covers.
Gayle, perhaps fired up by a painful blow in the box area from Harmison the previous evening, then took his frustration out on Liam Plunkett, pushing him through point for another boundary.
Durham seamer Plunkett was also hit for successive boundaries in his next over, with Gayle opting for an attacking method in the early stages, firstly pushing through mid-on and then hammering over the top for another four.
Gayle quickly progressed to an unbeaten 24, while fellow opener Daren Ganga was more conservative and had reached an unbeaten nine when the rain interrupted proceedings.
