Windies clinch series win
08 January 2007
Chris Gayle's side showed they are far more formidable opponents in the shortened version of the game after finishing on 289 for five, with England replying with 196 all out at Trent Bridge.
It ended Paul Collingwood's hopes of beginning his reign as England one-day captain with a trophy.
The Windies had hammered 116 runs off the final 10 overs.
Skipper Gayle laid the foundations with a restrained 82 of 126 balls with eight fours - his highest score of the tour - as he made England pay for dropping him on four and 20. But it was Runako Morton and Dwayne Bravo who cut loose in the final stages.
Morton accelerated after a slow start to finish unbeaten on 82 from 89 balls with six fours and a six while Bravo plundered 42 from only 24 deliveries with half a dozen boundaries.
Windies paceman Daren Powell's early three wicket burst gave his side a grip on proceedings they never looked like relinquishing.
Powell removed England openers Matt Prior and Alastair Cook - plus dangerman Kevin Pietersen for a duck - inside his first five overs and he finished with four for 40.
The only bright note for England was a fifth wicket stand of 72 between Owais Shah (51) and Collingwood (44).
But once they had been dismissed the Windies quickly polished off their opponents with more than five overs to spare, with Fidel Edwards claiming three wickets.
