Window offers respite for Jewell

Jewell could well be without first-choice goalkeeper Stephen Bywater and Stephen Pearson against Blackburn with shoulder injuries, while Robert Earnshaw picked up a calf strain against Liverpool which reduced him to a passenger for the last 20 minutes. Claude Davis, Matt Oakley, Andy Todd and David Jones are also probably missing.
Jewell said: "The injuries have piled up. Pearson, Bywater, Earnshaw - we really are stretched to the limits. I wish it was January already, we need to bring people in."
He added: "Lewis Price did more than okay. He was nervy early on but he made some fine saves, and I was pleased with him.
"It was his first game of the season, and then he ends up facing one of the best teams in Europe.
"He didn't have time for nerves. Bywater was a late withdrawal, and Price just had to get in and do it."
Jewell is already planning for changes in January but admits to a realism about the situation - which may not see Derby splashing too much cash when the likelihood is still that they will be back in the Coca-Cola Championship next season.
Despite denials, Giles Barnes could be sold to West Ham to help finance Jewell's January plans.
Chairman Adam Pearson is right behind his new manager.
He said: "The transfer window opens in under a week, and the manager and I hope to be very busy through the month of January."
