Wise claims ref abused him

Leeds boss Dennis Wise has claimed referee Danny McDermid used offensive language towards him as the Yorkshire club's 100% start to the League One season ended with a 1-1 draw at Gillingham.

The Elland Road chief was furious with McDermid's decision to send off strike duo Tresor Kandol and Jermaine Beckford and was also sent to the stand at half-time for verbally abusing the official.

But Wise claims the referee used similar language to him after the final whistle, and he said: "I think is totally and utterly unacceptable and we as a club will be reporting him."

Wise added: "I have three witnesses who are going to back me up, so well done to the ref, he got the headlines he obviously wanted.

"The ref has sent me off at half-time because I've said something that I shouldn't have done. But it seems there are two different sets of rules."

Seb Carole gave the visitors the lead after 28 minutes before Kandol and Beckford were both sent off for two bookable offences.

Leeds, who had won their previous seven league games after being docked 15 points before the start of the season for financial irregularities, held on until the first minute of injury-time before Ian Cox popped up at the far post to head home a deserved equaliser for the Gills.
