Wishart hails Webster result
05 January 2007
The 25-year-old moved to Wigan last summer after taking advantage of a legal loophole which allowed him to leave after three years of a four-year contract providing he gave appropriate notice and joined a club in a different country.
Wishart said: "It looks like Andy has been a naughty boy and not followed the rules but he has. There was always going to be compensation we knew that, although it was more than I expected. But Andy has been vindicated and it's a great day for players across the world."
Webster is currently on loan at Rangers and is expected to make the move permanent in the summer.
In a statement released on Friday night, FIFA reported that their dispute resolution chamber found Webster "guilty of having breached the employment contract without just cause outside the protected period and condemned him to pay Heart of Midlothian the amount of £625,000 as compensation".
Wishart added: "The term "without just cause" is just phraseology and Andy was absolutely entitled to do what he did.
"That's why FIFA allowed him to sign for Wigan, if he hadn't been able to do it he would have been sent back to Hearts.
"I know top players across the world have been awaiting this judgement."
FIFA determined that Webster failed to give Hearts sufficient notice of his departure, and imposed the two-week suspension for next season as a result.
But Wishart explained that the suspension was simply for a technical offence. He said: "He has been suspended for a two week period and that is because he didn't act within a 15 day period at the end of the season."
