Wishart offers to help Whyte

PFA Scotland chief executive Fraser Wishart has offered to work with Rangers owner Craig Whyte to help the club through their financial crisis.

Wishart is on standby to help players at Ibrox after the club lodged notice of their intention to go into administration. Such a move would likely lead to redundancies on the playing staff and Wishart is keen to help minimise the impact on his members but also the club itself.

The former Rangers full-back told Sky Sports News: "There has been all sorts of finger-pointing and ramifications. For me it's about working with the players and the club. I'm hoping to meet with the owner and we can possibly work with the club and ensure there's a good enough team on the football park."

Whyte has revealed Rangers are facing a tax bill of up to £75million following a tribunal into staff payments before he took control in May last year.

Rangers said on Monday a final decision on whether to enter administration would be made within 10 working days.

Wishart said: "I'm not party to the intimate details. Our role is to look after our members.

"But at the same time we also aim to help clubs survive. We have worked with many clubs and players are flexible.

"They all love Scottish football and love playing for Rangers.

"They are all aware they need to be professional at this time and I'm sure they will."
