Wolves extend advantage

Wolves went seven points clear at the top of the Coca-Cola Championship with a 1-0 victory over Doncaster as Reading won at Birmingham to go second.

The leaders had been frustrated by a resolute Doncaster before they finally broke the deadlock with nine minutes remaining when defender Neill Collins headed in Michael Kightly's cross.

Reading moved up to second above Birmingham with a deserved 3-1 win at St Andrews.

The Royals took the lead through Noel Hunt's first-half free-kick, Kevin Phillips levelled the scores with a fine finish after a solo run but Kevin Doyle hit Reading's second with a delicate header from a Stephen Hunt free-kick.

The visitors wrapped up the three points when Kalifa Cisse headed in Doyle's deep cross eight minutes from time.

Norwich eased their relegation worries as their 1-0 home win, thanks to Leroy Lita's goal on the hour, kept Charlton in the bottom three.

Strugglers Nottingham Forest did their survival chances a power of good with a 2-0 win at Southampton.

Wes Morgan gave Forest the lead with a close-range header from Chris Cohen's cross just before half-time and the visitors made the points safe through Joe Garner.

Martin Paterson and Steve Thompson scored as Burnley won 2-1 at Bristol City to move within four points of Birmingham.

In Saturday's late kick-off Nick Carle's volley deep into stoppage time gave Neil Warnock's Crystal Palace a deserved 2-2 draw at former club Sheffield United.
