The two-time winner, aiming to win his 13th major at the US Open this week, hopes to compete in Britain but insists family matters come first - Woods' wife Elin is due to give birth in July, with the Carnoustie event starting on July 19.

"Being there for the birth is the most important thing - not a golf tournament," Woods told The Sun. "If Elin is going to have the baby during the week of The Open, I don't go. It's that simple."

He added: "My intention is to play at Carnoustie but I really don't know what is going to happen. Hopefully, the baby will be healthy and will arrive on time. But at the moment, I cannot be certain about my schedule.

"I will base it around the birth but my playing plans are still up in the air. Your guess is as good as mine."
