Wotte takes over as Poortvliet leaves

Poortvliet resigned with immediate effect after less than eight months, having seen Saints struggle badly this season - particularly at home, where they have won just one of 14 league matches.
The south-coast club are currently second from bottom in the Coca-Cola Championship, and lost to relegation rivals Doncaster last Saturday. The responsibility for lifting Southampton out of the relegation zone will now fall to Wotte, the former RKC Waalwijk manager, who had been serving as assistant to Poortvliet.
In a statement, released on Southampton's official website, the club reported: "Following discussions with Southampton Football Club, Jan Poortvliet has this evening stepped down from his role as head coach with immediate effect.
"Poortvliet has taken the decision to stand down from his position in response to the club's poor home form."
Southampton also confirmed Wotte will assume responsibility for the team and lead them in Tuesday's league match at Norwich.
It will not be a short-term appointment, though, with Saints stressing the experienced 48-year-old is being promoted from his back-seat role to lead the club on a full-time basis.
Southampton are without a fixture in the FA Cup on Saturday, having been defeated by Manchester United in the third round.
