Younus targets fast start

Pakistan will enter Saturday's crunch match against New Zealand aiming to impose themselves from the start as they attempt to preserve their interest in the ICC World Twenty20 tournament.

Having slumped to a 19-run defeat in Friday's opening encounter of the Super Eights against Sri Lanka, Pakistan need a victory at the Oval to prevent an early exit from the competition.

Captain Younus Khan said: "In every single game we've had trouble with our start. Friday was a crucial game and we had back-to-back no-balls in the first over, but Tanvir is struggling - it's all about the start we've been having."

Chasing Sri Lanka's 150 for seven, Pakistan struggled throughout their reply and despite Younus' 50 off 37 balls they slumped to 131 for nine to leave them facing Saturday's must-win encounter.

Once again, Pakistan's discipline in the field let them down after they conceded 20 extras and Younus admitted: "We had a couple of early no-balls and you can't do that in this sort of cricket.

"You then get a free hit and four runs so it's not very good - we had 20 extras and we lost by 19 runs so it shows how crucial it is in this form of cricket."

Sri Lanka, who face Ireland at Lord's on Sunday, were indebted to another impressive display from all-rounder Tillekeratne Dilshan who hit 46 off 39 balls.

His innings also included an audacious scoop shot over his head to the boundary off left-arm seamer Mohammad Aamir, a shot he developed during his stint with the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League.

"The first time I played it was two months ago in the IPL," said Dilshan. "I have confidence now and I trust myself that I can play that shot.

"I can play a paddle shot against a yorker and then if the ball is a good length, it can go behind the wicket-keeper."
