Meanwhile it has emerged that UEFA's match delegate will report that it was a bottle thrown from the Zeta directors' box which sparked the flurry of missiles during the second half of Tuesday's Champions League qualifier.

The offensive chanting towards American winger Beasley and French striker Darcheville could result in UEFA taking strong action against Zeta, but the club's director Valdo Sisevic said in The Sun: "I'd like to apologise to Rangers Football Club for what happened."

However he also claimed: "The problem with racism is not a major incident. These are the actions of a few individuals and is nothing to do with the football club."

UEFA delegate Jean-Marie Phillips told the Daily Record he witnessed a bottle being thrown towards the pitch from the section of stadium housing Zeta officials.

Phillips said: "Yes I have sent my report in and in it I have included the fact the first bottle was thrown from where the directors and officials of FK Zeta were based.

"In that section there were directors but also some supporters. I couldn't see whether it was a director or a supporter who had thrown it."
