Share Centre float pulls in the punters

12.05.08

City investors may have the jitters, but retail punters will put money into the stock market if the product is right.

That is the view of veteran stockbroker Gavin Oldham, who today declared demand from the public for his flotation of his brokerage The Share Centre has outstripped the number of shares on offer by nearly four times.

Oldham, who set up Barclayshare, now Barclays Stockbrokers, in the 1980s, offered shares only to the public and easily raised the £1 million target, today allocating £365 of shares to each applicant. Share Plc floats on AIM on Thursday.
