ITV venture Kangaroo awaits OK

08.08.08

ITV suffered another blow today as the Competition Commission said it will take longer than expected to examine the planned joint venture between the commercial broadcaster, the BBC and Channel Four.

The venture, Project Kangaroo, is to build a shared platform for video on demand, doing for broadband television what Freeview did for digital TV.

Planning has been under way for more than a year now, but today the Commission said it is unlikely to report until next year. In part it blamed the broadcasters, who it said were still negotiating details of the joint venture - seen as a potential major rival to Sky.
