Stocks slide as Pakistan gets jitters

26.08.08

Shares dropped sharply in Pakistan today on worries about political instability after the collapse of the ruling coalition.

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League-N party withdrew support for the alliance, leaving Asif Ali Zardari, the corruptiontainted widower of assassinated ex-leader Benazir Bhutto, as front runner to take over as president from Pervez Musharraf.

Karachi's KSE 100 index fell by 2.3%.
