Channel Five scores a zero as ads slump
26.08.08
Even the cult soap Neighbours cannot save broadcaster Channel Five from slumping ad revenues.
Five, which started broadcasting the Australian show in February, saw profits fall from £4 million a year ago to zero in the six months to 30 June. Investments in its digital channels Fiver and Five US added to the advertising malaise.
Dawn Airey, who resigned from ITV in May after eight months, is expected to start as Five chief executive at the end of October.
Five's German owner RTL, which also owns Fremantle Media, the outfit behind Britain's Got Talent, American Idol and The Apprentice, lifted profits almost 7% to ¤97 million (£77 million).
