Verwaayen to take helm at Alcatel-Lucent

02.09.08

Three months after standing down as chief executive of BT, Ben Verwaayen has been made chief executive of Franco-American telecoms equipment group Alcatel-Lucent in Paris.

He is joined by a new chairman, Philippe Camus formerly of Airbus.

Alcatel-Lucent has struggled since the merger of the two companies two years ago and parted company with its chairman and chief executive in July after six quarters of losses.

Verwaayen, who was recruited to BT from Lucent where he chaired the management board in 2002, said: “I am committed to building significant and sustainable value for our shareholders, customers and employees.”
