Threat: Shell Oil shutdown their operations during Hurricane Gustav

Shell finds only minor storm damage

05.09.08

Shell Oil expects to restart most of its operations in the Gulf of Mexico over the next few days following their shutdown ahead of Hurricane Gustav last week.

Hurricane Ike and tropical storms Hanna and Josephine are not seen as threatening to the oil industry, say to latest forecasts.

Shell said it had starting testing its main pipelines which bring oil ashore from the Gulf, and had found only minor damage to its offshore oil platforms.

This will not delay production beyond the start of next week, it said.

The firm is one of the largest operators in the region with a capacity of more than 1.5million barrels a day.
