Increase: Sales at John Lewis rose in August

John Lewis lifted by end of holiday

05.09.08

The dash back from the country cottage to the London house and the need to stock up on food at Waitrose, followed by the rush to get the kids' new school uniforms and shoes, boosted sales at John Lewis in the final week of August.

The department stores saw a 1.7% rise in sales on the same week a year ago.

Sales at the group's Waitrose supermarkets rose 1.8%, boosted by strong bank holiday sales of beef.
