Batman and Mamma lift Cineworld
28 Oct 2008Movie chain Cineworld today shrugged off the consumer downturn and delivered a blockbuster performance.
Film lovers flocking to see Mamma Mia and the latest Batman flick The Dark Knight sent box-office takings soaring 3.9% in the 43 weeks to 23 October, while total revenues were up 2.2%.
Despite the delayed release of the next Harry Potter film, chief executive Steve Wiener expects bumper sales in the run-up to Christmas as James Bond: Quantum of Solace and High School Musical 3 pull in the crowds.
