Staff 'Dunkirk spirit' cheers Fuller's boss

21.11.08

Michael Turner, chairman of brewer Fuller, Smith & Turner today praised a "Dunkirk spirit" among his staff which has kept the company in good cheer.

Fuller's profits fell 6% to £12 million for the six months to the end of September, a creditable result, he reckons.

"I am really pleased with the team's enthusiasm. There is a Dunkirk spirit out there," he said.

Sales rose 1% to £94.4 million.

The brewer's plan is to operate the leading pub in any area, with a strong focus on food.

Turner wants to snap up rivals' pubs that are in danger of closing and says sellers have got more realistic about prices.
