Independent is moving to Daily Mail HQ

28.11.08

The Independent group of newspapers are to quit their offices in Docklands and move to the Kensington headquarters of Associated Newspapers at the end of January 2009.

Independent News & Media, owner of the Independent and Independent on Sunday, today signed an agreement with Associated, publisher of the Evening Standard and Daily Mail, which will mean the companies share some back-office services.

But the editorial, management and commercial operations of the two newspaper groups will remain entirely separate.

Ian Hanson, operations director of Associated, said: "The cost savings from a sharing of infrastructures will be beneficial to both organisations."

Ivan Fallon, chief executive of INM (UK), said the agreement would help "create better and more commercially viable newspapers while staying true to the editorial values we cherish".
