Comeback: Eliot Spitzer has returned to the lucrative property business which bankrolled his rise to fame

Disgraced former New York Governor and Wall Street clean-up king Eliot Spitzer is back in business.

Spitzer who first made his name cracking down on a whole range of spurious investment banking practices but then abruptly exited public life last year after being outed as a customer of a prostitute ring, has returned to the lucrative property business which bankrolled his rise to fame.

The one-time New York attorney general who went on to become the state's Democrat Governor has, through his father's real estate company, paid $180 million (£126.2 million) for a 13-storey office block just down the road from the White House in Washington DC.

The building currently houses part of the Nixon Presidential Library, the public relations firm Fleishman-Hillard and the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries.

It is also just one block down from the hotel which was the location of the tryst with a prostitute which led to his resignation as Governor of New York.
