BoE in swoop for £2 billion of gilts

The Bank of England today bought up almost £2 billion of longer-dated Government bonds from banks and financial institutions.

The move is part of its attempts to pump money into the economy through its quantitative easing programme.

The buy-up was about three-and-a-half times oversubscribed.
