Bank of England bought £76 million of commercial paper

27.03.09

The Bank of England today said it purchased £76 million ($109.8 million) of commercial paper in the week ending March 26 with newly created money, less than the £345 million bought the previous week.

That took the net amount of commercial paper bought so far to £1.966 billion, up from £1.890 billion last week.

The Bank also confirmed that it bought £6.0 billion of gilts this week, taking the total to £12.993 billion, and £128 million of corporate debt under a scheme started this week.

The purchases were part of the central bank's £75 billion quantitative easing programmed to boost growth.
