Footsie surges by 2%
5 May 2009Those who think we are at the start of a long bull market for shares got a further slice of evidence today, the FTSE 100 enjoying another move upwards as traders returned from the bank holiday weekend with optimism.
Banks and mining stocks led the surge, with Barclays up 20½p to 299½p and RBS adding 6.5p to 50.5p. The Footsie rose 92.12 points, or about 2%, to 4335.34. On Wall Street, the Dow rose about 3% as investors bet the biggest US banks might need to raise less extra capital than feared. Oil moved above $54 a barrel for the first time in a month.
