Talking it up: Vodafone today unveiled operating profits up 16% to £11.8 billion

Vodafone warning despite profit boost

19.05.09

Vodafone today unveiled operating profits up 16% to £11.8 billion for the year to March 31, but warned it did not expect to better the figure in the current financial year.

The mobile phone giant said its 16.7% boost in adjusted operating profits reflected "robust" trading in Africa and India, offsetting a weaker performance in its more mature European markets.

But the Newbury-based company said that economic uncertainty and the threat of rising unemployment in Europe meant it expected operating profits for the coming year to be no higher than £11.8 billion.
