Hamleys’ sales rise consumed by debts

Toy shop company Hamleys fell £2.7 million into the red after the interest it paid on its debt wiped out any gains from an £8 million leap in sales to £44 million for the full-year to March.

Chief executive Gudjon Reynisson said: “We remain confident we have put the right things in place to grow the business.”

The store is one of London's major tourist attractions, and has five million visitors a year.
