Good news has pound on the up

The pound hit a six-month high against the euro this morning, continuing its recent recovery. Sterling was up for the fifth day on the trot, with the euro buying less than 85p for the first time since early December 2008.

The pound plunged last week as political turmoil engulfed the British Government. Better economic news this week has helped buoy the currency. The euro slipped 0.4p to 84.98p.
