Steve Jobs 'back working at Apple' after his six months off sick

Steve Jobs, Apple chief executive, has made a tentative return to work after undergoing a liver transplant and taking nearly six months' medical leave.

The pioneering software designer, seen as the key visionary behind the computing giant's rebirth with the iMac, iPod and iPhones, turned up at work yesterday.

He was spotted leaving the main corporate office area in Cupertino, California, witnesses told Reuters.

His illness has unsettled investors and staff at the company as he is such a hugely influential figure there.

The liver operation could bring an end to his hormone imbalance problem which has seen him shed pounds of weight.

Legions of software buffs have been hanging on every piece of news about Jobs's health this year.

The witnesses said Jobs was seen leaving the headquarters late last night California time.

He got into a black car that was driven off with men in black suits with earpieces.

Apple said at the weekend that Jobs would stay on medical leave until the end of the month when he would return part time.
