Waitrose hits sales heights in the heat

10 Jul 2009

Picnics in the park and barbies in the garden helped Waitrose, the John Lewis supermarket chain, to record its best ever weekly sales outside the bumper Christmas and Easter weeks.

Sales for the week to 10 June, when temperatures topped 30 degrees, soared by 14%. Outdoor eating saw quiche sales up by 22%, deli sales up 21% and yoghurts up by 14%.

I SHOP AT WAITROSE. EVERYWEEK I DRIVE TO THE LOCAL TIP WITH A SACK OF CARDBOARD FROM PACKAGED FOOD. WHY CANT WAITROSE DO SOMEHTING TO CUT THIS EXTRAORINARY WASTE.

I READ TODAY THAT A SUPERMARKET IS TO INTRODUCE THE FIRST BOILED EGG FOR SANDWICHES, IT COSTS 45p JUST IMAGINE THE IMPACT ON GLOBAL WARMING. FIRST THE COOKING OF THE EGGS, THEN THE CHILLLING, TRANSPORTING , PACKAGING AND FINALLY COOLING. ALL FOR ONE EGG.

ELSEWHERE YOU REPORT LONDON IS IN DANGER OF FLOODING BECAUSE OF GLOBAL WARMING. WHEN ARE WE TO GET THE MESSAGE.
