Arsenal shareholder Kroenke splashes out on more shares

Arsenal director Stan Kroenke, already its largest shareholder, has upped his stake in the north London club.

The 61-year-old American businessman splashed out £1.36 million to boost his holding by 0.3% to 28.6%, augmenting his position as the Gunners' biggest shareholder.

Kroenke - who also owns the US basketball team the Denver Nuggets and the Colorado Avalanche hockey squad as well as the American soccer team Colorado Rapids - is getting closer to the 30% threshold that triggers a mandatory offer for the remaining shares.

The second-largest shareholder is Uzbekistani metals mogul Alisher Usmanov, who owns a little more than 25% of the club, but is not on the club board.
