Cost cutting lifts Yahoo’s profits

Savage cost cutting helped Yahoo eke out slightly higher profits in the second quarter despite the internet company's sharpest fall in advertising revenues since the dot-com bust.

Yahoo made $141.4 million (£86.3 million) in the three months to the end of June compared with $131.2 million in the same period last year. Revenues fell 13% to $1.57 billion.
