Loans to firms are rising say bankers

27.07.09

UK banks today said lending to small businesses rose by £391 million last month amid Government claims they are starving the economy of funds.

The British Bankers' Association (BBA) said lending to small firms in June rose by £366 million with a further £25 million in overdraft facilities.

This follows £133 million in May and £267 million in April. BBA chief executive Angela Knight said that lenders are “meeting their part of the bargain”.
