Vedanta ups its bid for copper miner

Vedanta Resources, the Indian-focused metals group, today sweetened its bid for the assets of bankrupt US copper miner Asarco.

Sterlite, Vedanta's subsidiary, is battling Grupo Mexico in a Texan court for the assets. Sterlite has hiked its offer to $1.59 billion (£957 million) in cash, from $1.1 billion, and lowered the value of the copper price participation note to $208 million.
