Voda ex-chief joins board of Safeway

Former Vodafone chief executive Arun Sarin was today appointed to the board of US superstores chain Safeway. Sarin stunned the City last year when he stepped down at Vodafone after five years at the helm of the world's largest mobile phone company.

He was replaced by Vittorio Colao but the timing of his departure, alongside a 10%
rise in profits to �13.2 billion, came as a shock.
