Dell deal nets Perots $1 billion

21.09.09

Ross Perot has bagged his second fortune in three decades after the Texan businessman and one-time presidential candidate sold his IT house to rival Dell.

Perot Systems, which is major consultant to the National Health Service in the UK, today agreed to a $3.9 billion (£2.4 billion) takeover from Dell.

That will net the Perot family - Ross Perot is chairman emeritus and son Ross jnr is chairman of the board - nearly $1 billion for their 25% stake.

Perot, 79, made his first fortune after he sold EDS, the IT contractor he formed in the 1960s, to General Motors for $2.5 billion in 1984.

He became an international figure in 1992 when he bankrolled his own US presidential candidacy, split the conservatives by polling 19% of the vote and allowed Bill Clinton to win the White House.
