Mint winds down

Mint, the financial services brand launched by RBS with a multi-million advertising campaign in 2003, appears to be winding down to new business.

Today its website reads: “We're sorry, Mint are currently not accepting new card applications.” It has the same banner on the section of its website that sells insurance and loan deals. Potential customers have been asking questions about Mint's status in online forums for several weeks.

Mint was launched at the height of the bull market when credit was easily accessible. It is best known for its credit card featuring a curved corner and a hamster advertisement which achieved cult status on YouTube.

At its launch, RBS claimed Mint would be “the best all-round deal on the market” for those “wanting to have their cake and eat it”.
