GlaxoSmithKline today announced it is spending £11 million creating a science park in Stevenage that will house 1500 biotech experts.

The Government and the Wellcome Trust medical charity are splashing out a further £27 million.

Glaxo's chief executive, Andrew Witty, said the hub would help Britain compete with US firms. It will also allow Glaxo to monitor new drugs emerging from the biotech laboratories.
