Diamond rejects top job chance at Bank of America

20.10.09

Barclays president Bob Diamond has snubbed the chance to try out for the top job at Bank of America.

Diamond, 58, was approached by BoA's board about stepping into the shoes of chief executive Kenneth Lewis, who retires at the end of the year.

He was shortlisted by the bank's recruitment committee but refused to take part in interviews.

Diamond runs Barclays Capital, the investment banking arm. He is expected to pocket a massive bonus this year for overseeing the acquisition of Lehman Brothers' North American operations.

Potential candidates for the BoA role include the bank's chief risk officer, Gregory Curl, and the head of consumer and small business banking Brian Moynihan.
