Stobart’s airport plans boosted by Games rail link
22 Oct 2009Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted locals raging at attempts to build new runways at London's three premier airports may be getting some relief from an unlikely source — Eddie Stobart.
The trucking firm is making such headway for ambitious plans at tiny Southend Airport that it believes the Essex airstrip could be handling two million passengers by 2014.
Stobart bought Southend Airport earlier this year and today said a new rail station and link to the Stratford Olympics site and Liverpool Street station will be open in May next year.
It believes it could be handling half a million passengers by 2012 but can crank up development with planning permission for a longer runway.

The new Airport station is on the Stratford/Liverpool Street line. Southend Airport is perfect for the Olympics and beyond. Easing congestion at the main London Airports.
