22.10.09

Tony Ball is joining the public relations company which recently handled his version of events when he was first selected and then rejected as ITV's next chief executive.

The former boss of Rupert Murdoch's BSkyB is becoming chairman of Portland's advisory council, which includes ex-cabinet minister Michael Portillio and former head of the DDB advertising group Sir Chris Powell.

Portland was founded eight years ago by Tim Allan who had previously handled Ball's PR at Sky and then became an adviser to Tony Blair.

Portland recently recruited the Sun's political editor George Pascoe-Watson to its staff which now numbers over 50.
