Aviva moved to distract attention from the chief executive's private life today, by unveiling a new finance director.
Patrick Regan will join the insurer as chief financial officer (CFO) in February, replacing the outgoing Philip Scott who leaves at the end of the year.
A senior and well respected figure in the industry, Scott was regarded as a candidate to land the top job before the Aviva board went instead for Moss.
Regan has been poached from insurance broker Willis Group, where he is also CFO.
Willis today began an immediate search to find a replacement for one of the most experienced number crunchers in the insurance industry.
During his career, Regan has held previously senior positions at RSA, Axa and Grant Thornton.
Aviva was rocked this week by revelations that chief executive Andrew Moss was having an affair with a member of staff. He has left his wife for the woman, Deirdre Moffat.
Today Moss said that Regan “brings a global perspective and a disciplined and highly strategic approach”.
Moss has overhauled the business, killing off the Norwich Union brand name as part of an attempt to create a truly global business.
