Glaxo lifted after US approves drug

GlaxoSmithKline today received a boost after the Food and Drug Administration in the US approved its leukaemia medicine Arzerra.

The green light will trigger a $23 million (£14.1 million) payout by the UK's biggest pharmaceutical firm to Genmab, the Danish biotech company which developed it.

Glaxo bought the global rights to Arzerra for $2.1 billion in 2006. The drug will be prescribed for patients who do not respond to other therapies.
