Burberry’s creative star is scaling new heights

Christopher Bailey, the designer credited with helping to turn Burberry into one of the world's biggest fashion labels, was today appointed chief creative officer “in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the brand”.

Chief executive Angela Ahrendts said the newly created position reflected Bailey's spearheading the development of Burberry's new 160,000 square feet headquarters at Horseferry House in Westminster, and offices in New York and Tokyo.

He has also designed its fashion collections since his appointment as creative director in 2001. Burberry last month reported better-than-expected second-quarter sales.

The brand best known for its red, white, black and tan check posted a 14% rise in retail sales, stripping out the effects of currency movements, to £311 million in the six months to 30 September.
