Kroes takes offence at fury from bankers
13 Nov 2009Neelie Kroes has defended herself against criticisms from state-supported banks, including Royal Bank of Scotland, which she is forcing to make big disposals.
Kroes, known as “Steely Neelie” for her tough approach to big business, declared: “I am not some kind of bank destroyer. I am actually trying to help the banks to make the right decisions.”
RBS has complained about the number of disposals it must make and last week, in an interview with the Evening Standard, RBS chief executive Stephen Hester stormed that Kroes's disposal orders “do not make it easier to return money to the taxpayer”.
Kroes claimed to be “surprised” by that and said: “I think it is only an arrogant culture in banking that could have fooled itself to thing that the commission was not serious about change. Too often bankers think they are better, smarter people who deserve different rules and different pay to everyone else. They can only think that if others let them.”

Typical politician ! She is asked a question about her making it harder for RBS to make a profit which she undoubtably has done and her reply is to have a generic pop at bankers themselves. If her brain is as woolly as her reply, she should be replaced with a younger, brighter person.
