Combined offer: Currys and PC World will sell their wares under the same roof

DSG International moves ahead with megastores

DSG International, the electricals group behind Currys and PC World, today announced that a key part of its turnaround plan was the development of 70 megastores across the UK, 33 of which should be open in time for Christmas.

The stores will combine Currys and PC World.

Chief executive John Browett is two years into a rescue plan that has so far focused on cost cuts, including closing 152 underperforming stores and exiting troubled overseas businesses in Hungary, Poland, Finland and Sweden.

Now he is moving to raise sales.

“The renewal and transformation plan is making significant changes to the group and we have started to see the benefits of this work,” said Browett.

In January, DSG posted much better-than-expected Christmas sales, stoked by strong demand for large-screen televisions, laptops and food mixers.
Like-for-like sales across the group rose 8% in the 12 weeks to 9 January, beating City expectations.

Analysts say the World Cup could also be a boon as football fans splash out on bigger TVs.
