British bosses 'lose confidence through the year'

3 Sep 2010

Confidence among British business leaders has slipped since the start of the year, with only 34% of senior executives "more confident" than they were in January.

Pessimism is deepest in the United States, according to the Eversheds' Tools For Recovery report, where just 29% of bosses are more confident than at the start of the year. In contrast, 83% in China are upbeat. Stephen Sorrell, partner at Eversheds, said: "The apparent inertia in the USA is surprising." He added there was "a very mixed picture" globally, with food, drink and tobacco doing best.

While businesses didn't believe government leadership has a significant impact, 19% of British bosses said they were more confident about the UK's political direction.
