'It's not so gloomy for IT jobs'

The downturn is nowhere near as bad in the IT jobs market as the post-dot-com bubble ructions of 2002-3, specialist recruitment firm SThree said today.

"Amidst all this doom and gloom people are still moving jobs," said Russell Clements, chief executive of the group, which trades as Computer Futures and Huxley Associates. "In core IT, managers are obligated to replace staff who leave."

A slowdown in City banking and finance jobs took the edge off a 24% rise in pre-tax profit at SThree for the six months to the end of May. The interim dividend is up 29% to 4p.
