Join Fay's Gourmet Gallop

Cocktails and canapés at Nobu Berkeley, starters at Benares, mains at the Maze Grill and desserts at Le Gavroche ... That's the evening in store, explains Fay Maschler, for 10 winners of our unique competition.

Everyone has the chance to be a winner in the Evening Standard Gourmet Gallop. Well, everyone who answers the questions on the coupon correctly and comes up with a pithy response to why he or she should join me to romp around Mayfair on the evening of 28 April, starting with cocktails and canapés at Nobu Berkeley, then moving on to a first course at the chic Indian restaurant Benares, a main course at the soon-to-open Maze Grill and dessert at the legendary Le Gavroche.

Entries by email are as welcome as those sent through the post.

The Gourmet Gallop, a meal like no other, is a unique and covetable prize. For anyone interested in restaurants, eating out and their fellow Evening Standard readers it is well worth a little research - dipping into cookery books, a phone call or two, some tinkering on the web - to come up with the answers to questions that relate to the four participating restaurants and their chefs.

Nobu Berkeley, which opened in 2005 with the bold decision not to take bookings, was, of course, immediately mobbed by Nobu devotees and had to knuckle under. But there will be space set aside for us in the seductive David Collins-designed interior. Nobu appetisers overseen by executive chef Mark Edwards, some reflecting the trademark Peruvian influences on raw fish, will provide a scintillating start to the night of treats. Champagne and intricate Eastern cocktails will start to loosen tongues and foster chat.

We then walk a block to Benares restaurant where Atul Kochhar, the first Indian chef in London to be awarded a Michelin star, will have prepared an array of first courses with the kick of Indian spices. Inspired by the holy city on the banks of the river Ganges, Benares on the first floor is a hidden tranquil oasis complete with pools of water and floating flowers. Enlightenment will descend as you try Atul's take on the traditions of his homeland.

Last year we Gourmets galloped to Scott's soon after it had opened. This year a brand new restaurant which will have a similar strong impact on London's restaurant scene is Jason Atherton's Maze Grill. Based on American steak houses and their deep understanding of beef, Maze Grill also will benefit from Jason's intuition, imagination, travel and playfulness where recipe ideas are concerned.

A stroll to the other side of Grosvenor Square will take us to the quintessentially classic French Le Gavroche, now in the hands of Albert Roux's son Michel. The skills of the pastry chefs are evident in the ices and sorbets nestling in a beautiful silver trolley as well as in confections of which Carême would be proud. It will be a sweet, memorable finish to a fantastic gastronomic odyssey.

Think hard about why your correct entry should be selected as one of the 10 Evening Standard readers who will line up at 6.30pm on 28 April at Nobu Berkeley with myself and features editor Charlotte Ross for an evening of food and frolics.

Written entries and emails must reach the Evening Standard by Monday 7 April 2008.
